We are looking for 2 friendly, motivated Fruit Shop Assistants to join our team for the current fruit season.

Starting dates:
Positions required to start in the week of 22nd December or 29th December 2025

It is essential that both of these positions be filled until the end of March - some flexibility is available in this month however if you can only work until mid-February we ask you to not apply.

Fairview Orchard is a busy, family-run orchard and fruit shop open 7 days, 8am - 7pm. We grow and sell our own fruit, make real fruit ice creams, honey, jam, coffees etc. and offer tastings from our onsite distillery.

About the Role

Rostered hours and days will vary week-to-week depending on fruit availability, weather and customer flow.
You can expect around 35 - 45 hours per week, usually working 5 days including weekends (our busiest days). More hours are often available if staff are away or the shop is pumping.

What you will be doing...

(Training is provided... You will learn skills you can take anywhere!)

• Serving customers with a friendly, helpful attitude
• Grading and packing fruit
• Making coffees, smoothies and real fruit ice creams
• Using the till & handling cash
• Hosting in-store alcohol tastings (18+ only. We make cider, spirits & liqueurs onsite)
• Cleaning and general shop duties
• Packaging goods
• Merchandising displays
• Following all food safety and health & safety protocols
• Bringing positivity, initiative and teamwork - especially during busy periods

What we are looking for...

Experience in fruit grading, barista work, fast paced retail or customer service is helpful, but not essential.

We are mainly looking for someone who is:
• Confident in your ability to be awesome
• Can relate to all ages and people from all walks of life - we help old ladies carry fruit to their car if you get the idea!
• Shows initiative under pressure
• Fast on their feet
• Positive, proactive and reliable
• Keen to learn and happy to support one another

Accommodation

We should be able to offer some onsite accommodation with kitchen, lounge, laundry, WiFi and bathrooms.
• Bedroom: $15.00 per night (we only have 1 room left)
• Campsites (van or tent): $12.50/night

Requirements

• Have a IRD number
• Have a NZ bank account
