Apple Thinning positions are available with a tentative start date of 9th November to approx. 19th Dec 2026.

You will be thinning small immature apples from trees. A reasonable level of fitness is required and the ability to follow instructions which will vary according to the type and crop load of the apple blocks. Ladder work is also required on some of the blocks. You will work in a supervised team and be trained in all aspects of the job by the supervisor.

Please note you must be able to work in New Zealand i.e. have a current working holiday visa or be a New Zealand citizen/resident (note we cannot employ any overseas person who has an SSE visa).

We are a family owned apple orchard and packhouse situated approximately 2km from Stortford Lodge on the west side of Hastings. An adjacent bus route is available.

Golden Oak does not supply accommodation or on-site camping.

Hours of work are 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday with the likelihood of a half day Saturday depending on thinning schedules. These times may vary according to weather events.

Remuneration is an hourly rate plus a bonus structure designed to reward consistency, quality, and productivity. Bonuses will be at the discretion of your supervisor. With bonuses, you could achieve up to an additional $5.50 per hour.

Preference may be shown to applicants who are also available to work in our apple harvest season from approx. early February 2027 to May 2027.

Rate: $23.95 plus 8% Holiday pay plus bonuses
